“I liked the concept of neighborhood lawn care — not looking like a huge corporate entity but a locally owned and operated business.”

Patrick Rentz realized he had the entrepreneurial spirit at a young age, and that passion has only grown with his continued green industry success.
“I started pushing a mower around the neighborhood when I was about 12, knocking on doors, just doing mowing and odd jobs for people,” Rentz said.

By the time he was 15, Rentz and his friend were mowing more than 30 lawns per week — and they continued to do so throughout high school. After high school, he went to college for four years, then returned to the mowing business in 1993.

“After college, we went into business officially. My friend decided to go back to grad school, and I took over the business,” Rentz said. “Twenty-four years later, I am continuing steady growth.”

Originally named Lawnpro Inc., Rentz reincorporated his business in 2002 to Rentz Landscape Management LLC. Along with the name change came a shift to become more of a commercial landscape service provider offering maintenance, installation, design, irrigation, weed control and fertilizer, drainage, synthetic turf/putting green installation, hardscape, and water features.

Rentz’s business was “growing like crazy,” but he was interested in adding residential lawn care services. He began exploring lawn care franchises and even considered starting a separate company when he learned of Spring-Green Lawn Care.
